THE TRANSIT OF VENUS. |
In the course of about 6 hours, the planet Venus passes in front of the solar disc. For this occasion, we are inviting school classes and others to a gathering at Sandnes Museum and Knowledge Centre. Here you can see the Transit through a telescope, read all about the Transit of Venus in our info display, and have all your questions about Space, stars and planets answered by an expert in astronomy, Tor Anton Haarr from the Stavanger Astronomical Society.
Time: 14.00, Tuesday June 8.
Place: the top of the parking lot by Our House ("Huset Vårt"), Solaveien 10.
If the weather turns foul, we will be showing the Transit from other parts of the world on a wide screen on the third floor in Solaveien 10.
Do you think this sounds like fun? Join in by contacting Mari Mæland;
e-post: mari.maeland@jaermuseet.no
or on telephone: 51 97 25 40 to have us send you an information
package about the Transit of Venus plus a set of assignments your
class can go through before you visit us.
Deadline: June 1.
NB! It is very dangerous to look at the Sun directly. Sandnes municipality is giving away eclipse spectacles to the 100 first people to declare their interest! We will also be selling spectacles that day. They cost NOK 30,- a pair.
NB! No living person has seen a Transit of Venus. We don't know exactly what we'll be witnessing...
