by Knut Jørgen Røed Ødegaard
Programme:
- Monday June 7:
- 14-21: Preparations for the historical day June 8. Take the opportunity to acquire eclipse spectacles and information!
- 18:00: "Natur og Ungdom" hosts a fashion show of environmentally
friendly clothing. The clothes are second-hand and lent from Fretex.
- 19:00: Celebration of June 7. hosted by 07-06-05 with Unni Wilhelmsen and Jo Nesbø.
- Tuesday June 8:
- Opening at 06:30. From this moment until first contact at 07:19 we will
look for a bright ring around the otherwise black Venus. This will be the
atmosphere of the planet. The phenomenon has never been photograped and we
don't know how early and how the ring will be visible. This phenomenon is
quite unique!
- 07:19: First contact. Venus is touching the brim of the Sun and the
transit begins. What we see now has now living human ever seen before!
- 07:38: Second contact. Whole of Venus is onto the solar disk. Now we begin
to look for the black drop effect.
- 10:20: Maximum. Venus is as close to the solar centre as it comes this
time.
- 13:03: Third contact. Venus touching the brim of the Sun again. We will
once again look for the black drop effect.
- 13:22: Fourth and last contact. Venus is leaving the Sun og the transit
ends.
- 13:22- around 14: Once again we look for the shining ring around
Venus. It is caused by the back-lit atmosphere of Venus. We summarize the
event and try to calculate the distances to the Sun and Venus from observations
made in Norway and around the world.
- 13:30: The award of "Årets Nysgjerrigper" (the most curious or
inquisitive group of pupils) is announced and the winners celebrated.
- 15:00: Event ends. Updated information, images and results will be
published on www.astronomy.no.
