Major international cooperation

The transit of Venus on June 8, 2004 is a major international event - probably the most important celestial event in modern times! Several international organisations have organised cooperations. Everyone in all involved nations shall be given the opportunity to experience this unique phenomenon. They will learn its importance for science and society and how it may contribute to contemporary science.

Norway is participating in several international campaigns related to the transit:

The Venus Transit 2004: Organised by ESO (European Southern Observatory). More than 50 nations from Australia to the east to USA to the west participate. Address of the cooperation:

Each participating country has a Venus transit web site and a national node organising activities in that country. The Norwegian node and organiser is astronomer Knut Jørgen Røed Ødegaard at The Institute of Theoretical Astrophysics, University of Oslo.(Contact information )
