IMAGES OF TRANSIT OF VENUS IN 1882

Extremely rare images: Here you can see almost all images ever taken of a tranist of Venus! The images taken in 1874 on wet bromiodid plates have not survived. In 1882 dry plates had become available.

The american Naval Observatory and Transit of Venus Commission sent 8 groups to locations all around the globe to observe each of the transits since they were of vital importance to determine the distance scales of our Solar system. Only 11 photographic plates have survived from the american expeditions in 1882.
