Announcement of the winner of the Nysgjerrigper Science Award during the Transit of Venus celebration

Between 1:30 and 2 pm on Tuesday, 8 June, the winner of the 2004 Nysgjerrigper Science Award will be announced. Until then, the identity of the winning project remains a closely-guarded secret.

The awards ceremony will take place on the stage in The Frogner Park, and will also broadcast live on a giant screen. The 2004 award will be presented by Norway's Minister of Education and Research, Ms. Kristin Clemet. In addition, jury chairperson Hanne S. Finstad will award two special prizes on behalf of the Nysgjerrigper Science Knowledge Project.

The school children and teacher behind the top-ranked research project will be transported to Oslo to receive the popular award. Their victory party will last for a full three days; this year's prize consists of a three-day excursion packed to the brim with exciting activities and surprises.

Master of Ceremonies is Marianne Løken, Senior Coordinator for Nysgjerrigper Science Resources. The Nysgjerrigper Science Fair is an annual competition organised by the Research Council of Norway. Groups of school children and entire classes take part in activities based on simple scientific principles. The purpose is to encourage children in primary schools to seek the answers to questions by conducting projects in which they must work systematically and synthesize information from various disciplines.
