NATIONAL EVENT IN FROGNERPARKEN

By Knut Jørgen Røed Ødegaard

On the occasion of the first total solar eclipse on Norwegian territory since 1954, on August 1st, the Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics and the Norwegian Astronomical Society extend an invitation to a grand event in Frognerparken. In addition to the spectacular phenomenon in the sky we also offer activities and stands about astronomy, the natural sciences, technology and climate. There will be fun and fascination for all!

Opening hours for the event are::

Thursday July 31st 2:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Friday August 1st 9:00 am - 2:00 pm
This is the big, historic day!

The Thursday will be spent getting ready for the big day - we encourage to get solar eclipse glasses and information this day. There will be long line-ups on Friday! On Thursday we will also offer a variety of activities and experiences.

The official organizers are Norwegian Astronomical Society (NAS) and Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics at UiO. NAS is a volunteer-based, countrywide organisation for astronomy enthusiasts. NAS has previously arranged several large events associated with astronomical happenings and was, with The Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics, organizer of the large event in Frognerparken during the solar eclipse on May 1st 2003 as well as the national event at the same location during the Transit of Venus on June 8th 2004. We will add information about participants and activities below as it is confirmed.

The closest neighbour of Frognerparken is the public swimming pool Frognerbadet. There won't be much dead time during the solar eclipse, but we encourage to bring swimwear for having a swim during the historical phenomenon. The pool is open from 7:00 am - 7:30 pm.

Free entrance!
